Casual nut? Cashier nut? Cashew Nuts!

Cashew is a type of nut that we often find in stores and consumed as a snack or even used part in Indian cuisines. Did you know that the snack we eat is part of a whole fruit and we are actually eating the seed! The upper part of the cashew is known as the cashew apple. Cashew apple is a soft fruit, highly nutritional and contains more vitamin C than an average orange. Due to the difficulty in transporting the fruit around, cashew nuts is a more popular option for consumers.

There are several reasons why cashew nuts are healthy and beneficial for us. Hence, I have listed down some of the good perks of snacking yourself with these healthy nuts!

    1. Cashew Nuts can prevent gallstones

A study conducted by the Nurses’ Health study on 80,000 women shows that women who consume at least one ounce of nuts, peanuts or peanut butter weekly are 25% less likely to develop gallstones.

    1. Healthy option for diabetics

Cashews contain low amount of fats in it compared to other type of nuts. The fats in these nuts are mostly comprised of monounsaturated fatty acids which have been proven to be healthy for the heart. Previous studies conducted have shown that monounsaturated fat can help reduce high triglyceride content in diabetic patients when consumed in a low-fat diet. Hence, cashew nuts can be a good option for diabetic patients.

    1. Cashew Nuts protects your heart

Nuts contain a high level of antioxidants which help in reducing the risk of heart-related diseases. Studies have further shown that the consumption of nuts at least 4 times weekly reduces the risk of coronary heart disease as much as 37% in comparison to the ones whom have never consumed nuts before.

    1. Strengthen your bones

The magnesium content in cashews is also important in the formation of health bones. Did you know that two-thirds of the magnesium in the human body is found in our bones? With a proper mix and balance with calcium, it helps to regulate the nerves and muscle tone. In most nerve cells, magnesium serve as a calcium channel blocker, meaning that it prevents the calcium content from rushing into the nerve cell to activate he nerve. This in turn would help to keep the nerves relaxed.

Yum, I love cashews w/ dry chili and chicken! The cashew fruit is actually quite interesting, the stems are very acidic/toxic so you have to handle quite carefully, best to stick to the nut 😉
