10 Uses for Vinegar Outside of the Kitchen

Vinegar has been around for thousands of years already. It was found that there were traces of it in Egyptian urns tracing all the way back in 3000 BC. Vinegar can come in a few varieties like apple cider vinegar, balsamic vinegar and East Asian black vinegar.

Vinegar is commonly used in food preparation processes; mainly in salad dressings, pickles and even as part of an ingredient to make condiments such as chutneys, mayonnaise, mustard and ketchup. Vinegar has a long shelf life even without refrigeration due to it's acidic nature. However, I'm not here to talk about what dishes you can make with them. We're going to learn on its uses outside of the kitchen so here's 10 of them which I find useful:


  1. Deter ants




Spray vinegar around the door and window frames or under appliances


  1. Keep cats away




Sprinkle on areas to prevent cats from walking on it


  1. Cleans rust




Soak the rusted equipment in undiluted vinegar for a night


  1. Soothe bee/jellyfish sting

Dot irritated area with vinegar to relieve itches


  1. Relieve itching from bug bites




Use cotton ball and dab vinegar at bitten area


  1. Relieves hiccups instantly




Swallow 1 tablespoon of vinegar


  1. Brighten fabric colours




Add ½ cup of vinegar while rinsing


  1. Remove tough stains like coffee

Rub vinegar on the stains gently





  1. Clean spectacles




Wipe each lens with a drop of vinegar


  1. Eliminate onion odour




Rub vinegar on your fingers before and after slicing
